China led the ranking with around 110 billion USD, a sum significantly higher than any other country. In comparison, both the United States and Germany spent roughly 84 billion USD each, making them the second- and third-highest contributors. The United Kingdom followed with an expenditure of approximately 55 billion USD.
Singapore allocated close to 25 billion USD to travel. South Korea and Hong Kong each recorded spending of about 20 billion USD. India’s figure stood at nearly 17 billion USD, placing it among the lower spenders in the group. Malaysia spent around 12 billion USD, which was slightly more than Taiwan, the country with the smallest amount of travel spending.
In summary, China was the dominant travel spender in 2014, followed at a distance by the United States and Germany. At the opposite end of the scale, Malaysia and Taiwan contributed the least to global travel expenditure.
