Spending on food slightly dropped from 35% to aproximately 32% from 1960 to 1970. Furthermore, it steadily declined from 32% to 15% across the rest of the period. Whereas, there was an increase in clothing by about 9% to 15% for the first 20 years, followed by a gradual increase of around 2% for the remainder of the years.
By comparison, Transport and Energy recorded significantly low spending throughout the 40 years period. Transport went from 10% of the expenditure to about 7% in 30 years, and then dropped significantly from 7% to 3%. Similarly, spending on energy remains stable with a slight drop from 5% to about 1% over the period
