The pie charts illustrate the primary motivations for individuals for migration to and emigration from the United Kingdom during 2007.
Overall, it is clear that formal study was a more significant reason for immigration than for emigration, while work-related cause was the most common for both entering and leaving the UK throughout 2007.
As can be seen from diagrams, 26% of those who migrate to the UK mentioned formal study as their one of the main motives. However, only 4% of emigrants pointed to education and that was the least significant reason of all.
In contrast, the largest proportion of both immigrants and emigrants in 2007 indicated their employment as the best motivation. The picture is similar for those who are leaving the UK and those entering which are 29% and 30% respectively. For both groups, this is the most important cause.
