Dear Tom,

I’m writing to express my regret that I’ll not be able to participate in your birthday party.

I would’ve to be there at your party but I can’t come because I’ve an appointment with a Nephrologist, my aunt’s doctor. She is battling severe kidney disease and I’ve to accompany her to hospital on the same day. I know you’ll be shocked but that’s the truth my friend.

I couldn’t contact you sooner because my routine tasks drain me out. From completing my assignments to visiting hospital, I’m totally occupied. I wonder if I had informed you earlier, you could’ve delayed the party.

However, don’t fell low. I’ve got some exciting news: I am coming over to your house on next Sunday to spend some quality time with you and I have got a surprise for you. I’ll also buy a small cake so that I can compensate for my absence.
