There is an ongoing debate about whether students should wear uniforms at school or not. I strongly agree with this view, as it ensures equality and promotes discipline.
One compelling reason why students should be required to wear uniforms is it promotes equality. This is because not every student has come from a well socio-economic background. If there were not uniforms, learners who have more privileges would wear various expensive and fashionable clothes, whereas students from low income families would wear the same casual outfits repeatedly. As a result, there would be stronger feelings of inequality and social pressure among students.
Another significant factor is that wearing uniforms improves discipline. Students will be less distracted about their appearance and will focus only in their educational training. A case in point is that without uniform students will be focused on whether they look good or not. They will try to make their casual outfits look more attractive by adding jewellery and putting on make-up. As a result, they will probably be distracted by their appearance, putting their studies behind. Additionally, not everyone is able to stay consistent about doing anything, so consistently wearing the same uniform and keeping it clean will greatly enhance discipline and a sense of responsibility.
In conclusion, uniforms create equality by making sure that every student looks the same regardless of their family’s wealth. They also help students stay disciplined and focused on their lessons instead of being distracted by fashion and appearance.
