Band 8+: A growing population is a big problem in many countries. Should the government provide new homes in the cities or countryside?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Nowadays, people cannot imagine their lives without the opportunities and services offered by large cities. As a result, more and more people move to urban areas, and this rapid population growth leads to overcrowding, which has become a serious issue for everyone. In this essay, I will discuss the main reasons behind this issue, including why people move to big cities and what causes urban overpopulation.

To begin with, overpopulation is a situation in which too many people live in one area, and the place cannot provide enough space, resources, or services for everyone. Firstly, one of the significant reasons for this problem is that people move to large cities in search of better job opportunities, higher salaries, and improved living standards. Moreover, big cities offer better education and healthcare, which attracts families from rural regions. As a result, the number of newcomers grows rapidly, while the city’s infrastructure cannot keep up with this increase. Consequently, this imbalance leads to overcrowded streets, high housing prices, and increased pressure on public services.

To address this problem, several effective measures can be taken. Firstly, governments should develop smaller towns and suburban areas by improving infrastructure, such as roads, public transport, schools, and hospitals. This would make people more willing to live there instead of moving to big cities. Moreover, authorities can create new jobs in rural areas so that people do not feel the need to migrate for better opportunities. Finally, building more affordable housing can help prevent overcrowded neighbourhoods in major cities.

In conclusion, the fast growth of the population in big cities creates many problems for people and for the city itself. However, if governments develop smaller towns, create jobs in rural areas, and build affordable homes, they can reduce overcrowding in major cities. With these steps, the population can be spread more evenly across the country
