Traveling by air is experiencing an continuously increasing demand from visitors due to tourist activities and the excessive number of people. While global warming and biodiversity loss are resulting from this phenomenon, the government’s appropriate policies such as stricter environmental regulations and raising public awareness.
To begin with, growing demand for flights can anticipate many related concerns. First and foremost, as more flights are activated for tourism, they would contribute to CO2 emissions, which drives global warming and climate change. Recents years have witnessed myriad pressing issues regarding this occurrence such as ice melting, excessive sun exposure or increasing sea level, leading to anxiety and trust in citizens and the potential threats to human and nature beings. Furthermore, the expansion of airports and associated infrastructure requires substantial land use, causing destruction of habitats and biodiversity loss. For example, the construction of international Tan Son Nhat airport (Vietnam) costs an exorbitant national budget and devastates over 800 hectares of natural land to build. As a result, the surroundings of flora and faunas are destroyed. This would not only force them to move and find other habitats but also create calamites of losing a diverse biosphere.
Since such problems are serious, policymakers should immediately take steps to address them. First of which is implementing more stringent regulations and laws, incentivizing green practices. This can be perfectly exemplified by Singapore, where the most renowned airport in the world was constructed- Changi International airport. A strict regulation about littering in 2010 was introduced, particularly specifying that anyone caught littering on the floor or in the shops would be fined up to 10 dollars. From that time on, the cases of doing so have diminished dramatically, contributing to the cleanest and most mesmerizing airport in the world. In addition, educating people is also an effective remedy that should be taken into consideration. By organizing campaigns or workshops about the negative influence of air transportation to residents, local authorities could gradually change their mindset about this kind of traveling and start to apply a greener lifestyle. This would eventually not only distribute to a more sustainable and healthier lifestyle but also successfully elevate their visions about the total picture of today’s world’s problems.
In conclusion, there are various negative consequences of air traveling and appropriate steps such as imposing regulations or promoting green lifestyle need to be taken by the government to tackle these problems. It can be predicted that with these suggested measures, this issue would likely be alleviated in the near future.
