In the era of technological advancements, technology is improving day by day, and the internet is accessible everywhere, providing everyone with access to instant translators. Consequently, many people rely on these apps rather than actually learning languages. However, I disagree with the notion above and have provided my reasons with justification.
Nowadays, the majority of people have access to the internet, allowing them to search in their own language and later translate it into other languages using Google Translate. A plethora of individuals are now watching foreign shows and movies with subtitles available in their own language. Additionally, many authors or bloggers post their content in their native language, causing difficulties for readers who don’t understand, leading them to use translators. However, Google Translate is not 100% accurate, but it can convey the general meaning for others to understand. Consequently, many believe that learning a different language is a waste of time when they can rely on Google Translate, especially when traveling abroad. While this enables interaction, not knowing the culture can lead to missing out on the full experience, resulting in regret. If individuals were to at least learn the language and customs, they could fully enjoy the experience.
Moreover, another advancement is Artificial Intelligence (AI), now available in most devices, helping individuals learn new languages and save precious time. For instance, the newly launched Samsung Galaxy phone has an inbuilt AI calling feature that converts conversations directly into the user’s language, making life easier. However, they forget the basics; if they try to learn another language and master it, they can freely converse with ease. On the other hand, when traveling to foreign countries where internet access is limited or slow, relying solely on technology may create hassle or hinder communication. Additionally, this technology fails to convey emotions, anger, or feelings, as it is programmed in a specific manner.
In conclusion, while technological advancements such as instant translators and AI language learning tools have undoubtedly made communication more convenient, they cannot replace the value of actually learning a foreign language. While relying on these tools may suffice for basic communication needs, true understanding and cultural immersion can only be achieved through language acquisition. Furthermore, the limitations of technology, such as inaccuracies and inability to convey emotions, highlight the importance of investing time in language learning. Therefore, while technology can aid in language acquisition, it should complement rather than replace the traditional methods of learning, ensuring a more enriching and fulfilling experience in an increasingly globalized world.
