In the technological advancements era, technology is improving day by day. And the internet is provided everywhere, so everyone has the access to a translator who translates it instantly. So, many are relying on this kind of app rather than actually learning it. I disagree with the above notion, and I have given my reasons with justification.
Nowadays, the majority of people have access to the internet, and they can search in their own language and later translate in another language using a Google translator. Now, a plethora of people are watching foreign shows and movies with subtitles that are now available in their own language. Additionally, many authors or bloggers post their blogs and provide the necessary information in their own language, so many have difficulty reading or understanding; therefore, they use translators and know what it says. But Google Translator is not 100% accurate, but it can convey the meaning for others to be able to understand. Therefore, many think that it is a waste of time to learn a different language when they can access the Google translator, which translates it for them when someone is traveling outside. By using this medium, they could interact with each other, but some time, not knowing their culture, they would miss the full enjoyment and regret it big time. If they at least learned another language and their customs, they could enjoy it fully.
Moreover, another advancement is artificial intelligence (AI), which is now available on most devices. Which helps individuals learn a new or other language and can save them precious time. For example, newly launched Samsung Galaxy phones now have an in-built AI calling feature that directly converts the conversation to their own language, making life easier. But they forgot the basics. If they try to learn another language and have a strong grasp of the language, then they can freely talk with ease. On the other hand, when you travel outside to a foreign country where you can’t have internet access or have a slow internet connection, it may create a hassle for them or they couldn’t contact others. Moreover, this technology couldn’t convey the emotion, anger, or feeling; they just programmed it this way.
In conclusion, while technological advancements such as instant translators and AI language learning tools have undoubtedly made communication more convenient, they cannot replace the value of actually learning a foreign language. While relying on these tools may suffice for basic communication needs, true understanding and cultural immersion can only be achieved through language acquisition. Furthermore, the limitations of technology, such as inaccuracies and the inability to convey emotions, highlight the importance of investing time in language learning. Therefore, while technology can aid in language acquisition, it should complement rather than replace the traditional methods of learning, ensuring a more enriching and fulfilling experience in an increasingly globalized world.
