Band 6+: Both government and individual are spending vast amount of money protecting animals and their habitats. This money could be better spent dealing with fundamental issues in society such as poverty and healthcare. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Some people argue that the large sums of money spent by both governments and individuals on wildlife conservation should be redirected toward addressing pressing social issues like poverty and healthcare. While I acknowledge that tackling these fundamental problems is crucial, I believe that protecting animals and their natural habitats is equally important.

One reason I partly agree with this claim is that both medical and poverty are essential for human well-being. Millions of people around the world today are facing the scarcity of clean water and hunger problems, not only makes the living conditions affected severely but also the life expectancy is shortened. In addition, allocating excessive resources to wildlife conservation may divert funds from crucial initiatives like poverty alleviation and business development, thereby aggravating directly the social inequality. Moreover, issues such as infectious, malnutrition and chronic diseases are also threatening our lives, especially in some underdeveloped countries. People in these countries lack timely access to healthcare services, as the shortage of facilities cannot respond to treatment needs. One striking example is witnessed in African countries, where children die due to the lack of vaccines and medicines, while a large amount of money is used to preserve animals and their habitats.

However, it is still essential to take action in protecting the ecosystem, as human survival largely depends on nature. In detail, activities like deforestation, illegal poaching and wildlife trade accelerate extreme weather conditions, further contributing to global warming. This, in turn, brings about a range of environmental concerns, including rising sea levels, which pose a serious threat to coastal communities and make maritime activities more challenging. As a result, preserving animals and habitats not only saves biodiversity but also enhances the overall standard of living in society. For instance, dense forests play a crucial role in regulating the climate by absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen, thus reducing the impact of greenhouse gases. They also act as natural barriers against natural disasters, such as floods and landslides, by stabilizing the soil and controlling water flow.

In conclusion, both wildlife conservation and fundamental issues in society deserve a distribution of reasonable investment for several reasons. From governments to non-profit organizations and individuals, financial assistance should be supported to ensure both social development and environmental sustainability.
