While acknowledging the challenges associated with technology, I would argue that it plays an important role in combating criminal activities in this century.
It is understandable that some might contend that high-tech programs of the modern era assist in solving crime problems with greater accuracy. To illustrate, devices such as cameras can help residents identify thieves through captured images, whereas in the past, people had to rely on memory or often inaccurate photographs. For example, in Vietnam, two thieves were caught by residential cameras. They covered their faces while robbing a bank, but only a few hours later, the Vietnamese police apprehended them thanks to technological advancements.
Another advantage of technological development is its ability to prevent crimes. By utilizing technology, law enforcement can monitor criminal activities and deter threats to public safety. For instance, released convicts are often required to wear GPS tracking devices and are placed on watchlists. This measure forces criminals to reconsider their plans for recidivism, as they could easily be caught and sent back to jail. In contrast to the past, where those who had completed their sentences were free to do whatever they wished, this has led to lower recidivism rates.
In conclusion, the potential of technology to curb criminal activities and aid in crime-solving has contributed significantly to the reduction of crime rates.
