Educating young children is crucial for the well-being of the nation, however, some people are convinced that more money should be allocated to educate the illiterate adults. I personally somewhat agree and will analyse the issue in this essay.
On the one hand, government budgets in many countries, particularly in underdeveloped or developing nations are very limited, so to manage the expenses associated with literacy between both young and adults becomes challenging. Because, if more funding is spent on improving adult literacy rate then there will be no funding left to spend on children and adolescents education. Therefore, this can possibly negatively affect the coaching of both groups.
On other hand, Due to increasing demand in autonomous systems and blue-collar jobs, a large number of illiterate adults who work in such positions are being made redundant, and therefore increasing the unemployment rate due to their lack of literacy skills when searching for other types of work. However, this situation not only reduces the standard of living for many people, but is also an underlying motive for rise in social problems, for example, homelessness and poverty makes them to do crimes like burglary and heists. Finally, providing formal schooling to adults who cannot read and write proves to be useful measure to reduce the negative consequences that may occur in society with high levels of adult illiteracy.
In conclusion, state funding may not allow an adequate amount of money for education of both the youth and adults to take effect. However, i still believe that if more money spent on educating adults who cannot read and write will definitely benefits the social welfare tremendously.
