There has been an increasing tendency to select computer-based subjects over studying science at schools and universities in recent years. This trend stems from various factors, and in my opinion, is a positive development, albeit with some drawbacks.
There are many key rationale behind more students choosing to study computer-based subjects over science. To begin with, there is a growing demand for workforce in some jobs in the field of technology such as programmer, developer. This resonates with the high salary which makes the undergrad students more dedicated to select studying computer-based subjects. Secondly, many undergrad students will find that science programs are a lot likelier to be more complex than computer-based ones. Therefore, getting a degree in computer-based programs is easier than in science programs, this also contributes to the trend.
Lager number of students favoring to study computer-based over science subjects brings manifold benefits. Firstly, for students who need an impressive profile to apply for their dream job, taking computer-based classes at a university allows them to easily get a high-class honor degree when they graduate. In addition to the merits, copping the demand for computer-based jobs such as programming, software engineering, and game developing helps with reducing the unemployment rate which improves the economy proactively.
Admittedly, there are concerns regarding well adjustment between studying science and computer-based subjects, and the potential lack of science knowledge for normal life. Nonetheless, I would argue that this issue can be effectively solved by adding science subjects as a part of the curriculum of computer field learners so as to help students adjust their knowledge. Vietnam’s latest learning programs for Vietnamese high schoolers can exemplify this situation. This way of teaching simulates the programs of universities to allow students to choose the subjects they want to study, still, they also have to select one of the given choices (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology) in order to balance their knowledge in all aspects if they plan to study something else apart from science.
In conclusion, the trend of selecting computer-based subjects over studying science of many people can improve the economy by keeping up with the employment demand. In my view, this trend is predominantly beneficial, as it also supports the students in their outcomes at university. However, it is essential to recognize and tackle the accompanying challenges to ensure a sustainable future.
