Food waste has become a common problem in many nations with both households and supermarkets discharging large quantities. It is not only demaging the environment but also waste valuable resources. The main reason for this issue is over consumption. In many cities, the people wastes food and there is no check and balance of their this activity.
First, in big cities the rich people mostly tries to make so many dishes to show off and in their parties, there is a huge amount of food goes to dustbin. This is the major reason of food waste. Many people lacks knowledge to save food, so fruits and vagetables spoil quickly. Supermarkets also contribute alot by removing items close to their expiry date from shelves to maintain aesthetic standards, even if the food is still edible.
Government should launch campaigns to educate people about preservation and food storage. For example, teaching families to make shopping lists can prevent overbuying. Supermarkets should be encourage to donate near expiry food to the charities instead of discarding it. Also, tax incentives for buisnesses that reduce waste would be effective.
In conclusion, food waste is mainly caused by overconsumption and inefficient practices by both consumers and retailers. However, through education and better policies, this problem can be significantly reduced.
