People hold different views about whether an outright ban dangerous sports or people should have their right to choose any sports activity. From my point of view, I completely agree with the latter.
On the one hand, there are numerous compelling reasons why dangerous sports should be prohibited. First, extreme sports have a high risk of injuries or even fatalities. For example, activities such as boxing, skydiving, and car-racing involve a high probability of accidents, leading to a burden on healthcare systems and families financially. Second, passionate fans, especially impressionable young children, might imitate the high-risk behaviour without proper safety measures, which can result in life-threatening to both participants and innocent bystanders. However, without extreme sports, people could lack the opportunity to channel their energy into positive directions instead of wasting their lives on drugs and alcohol.
On the other hand, I do believe that people should have the liberty to engage in sports activities. The first justification is that prohibiting people from pursuing their passion seems an infringement upon people’s freedoms, especially if they are fully aware of the associated risks. Moreover, it is true that every sport, even common ones like football, carries inherent risks and the potential for injuries. Therefore, imposing an outright ban on specific extreme sports could be seen as an arbitrary and unfair approach. Instead, a better solution may be to implement more stringent safety regulations and requirements for these activities.
In conclusion, for the reason discussed above, I believe that individuals should have the autonomy to engage in activities of their preference.
