Band 7+: In many countries, children are becoming overweight and unhealthy. Some people believe that schools should be responsible for solving this problem, while others think that parents should take the lead. Discuss both views

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In the present days, children are following a sedentary lifestyle which makes a detrimental effect on their health. Some people think that educational institutions should take control over this condition, whereas others believe that parents should take the responsibility. This essay outlines both the views along with my opinion.

Schools can create environments that support healthy behaviors, such as providing access to clean drinking water, promoting active transportation options like walking or cycling to school. For instance, in Finland, all the students are instructed to come to school by foot. Moreover, schools have the opportunity to educate students about the importance of healthy eating, regular physical activity, and overall well-being. Health education classes can provide students with knowledge and skills to make informed choices about their health. In addition, engaging in sports helps students maintain a healthy weight, build strength, and improve fitness. Regular physical activity is essential for reducing the risk of obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and other chronic health conditions.

However, parents have the most significant influence on their children’s dietary habits, physical activity levels, and overall lifestyle choices. Parents are responsible for providing nutritious meals, encouraging physical activity, and establishing healthy routines at home. Additionally, parents have the opportunity to instill lifelong habits and attitudes toward health and wellness in their children from a young age. By modeling healthy behaviors themselves and involving their children in meal preparation and physical activities, parents can help set a positive example.

In conclusion, my opinion is that collaboration between schools and parents is essential for tackling this issue effectively, as each has a unique influence on children’s behaviour and habits.
