Band 8+: In many countries, most shops and products become identical. Some people think it is a positive development, while others believe it is a negative development. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

The majority of shops and products in various nations share numerous comparable features. Nowadays, people are consistently polarised on whether this tendency is positive or not. This essay will delve into both perspectives before divulging the author’s opinion.

On the one hand, this phenomenon can confer substantial benefits for individuals and society as a whole. The first advantage lies in its ability to increase accessibility for individuals at reasonable prices. In fact, the similarity in most shops cultivates compatibility in both standards and prices, offering customers affordable prices for similar services, thereby fostering the consumption of products. Additionally, sharing homologous features in products incentivizes the adaptation to global standards. With industrialization and globalization, the demand for international measures is direly needed to control product quality. By sharing corresponding features, the state can easily stimulate synchronisation with global quality standards.

On the other hand, despite its aforementioned advantages, I am consistently convinced that this tendency will do both society and individuals a significant disservice. Firstly, the similarity in most shops can hinder creativity and cultural distribution. The homologous molds used by most shops are convenient to adopt and minimise decoration costs. However, these types of designs can be counterproductive by restricting the motivation to be different and creative, resulting in undermining tourism by increasing the feeling of monotony among tourists. This acts as a precursor to the ineffectiveness of distributing local culture. Furthermore, the excessive similarity in products also leads to the deterioration of local cultural diversity. Globalization fosters the cultural development of various nations through the proliferation of technology, consequently leading to products in many countries sharing similar qualities based on other cultures, which threatens local cultures. This deprives sufficient attention to regional traditions, leading to the gradual extinction of local traditions and contributing to the loss of identity among the youth.

In conclusion, while this tendency can foster accessibility and adaptation to international standards, I still lean toward its drawbacks. The adverse effects on creativity, cultural distribution, and diversity are significant concerns that cannot be overlooked.
