In many nations, poor eating habits are contributing to rising obesity rates and related illnesses.
This essay will discuss the main causes behind unhealthy eating behaviors, such as busy lifestyle and food industry influence, and suggest education combined with government regulation as the most effective solutions.
One reason for this negative trend is the modern lifestyles and the unhealthy food environment. This is because we are living a fast-paced-life and people do not have much time to cook fresh meals everyday. This made them buy fast food and processed meals which are quicker and cheaper than home-cooked meals. For instance, office workers often skip breakfast or rely on sugary snacks due to limited time. Another reason is that food companies often promote unhealthy items like soft drink, junk food as attractive and affordable. For example, a snacks company made their commercials with vibrant color and low prices make children prefer eating fried snacks over fruits and vegetables.
There are several effective solutions that school and government can do to tackle this issue. Firstly, nutrition education can be teach in school and public campaigns so that we can raise awareness of dangers of excessive sugar and fat intake. For example, schools in Japan teach students about diet leading to lower childhood obesity. Secondly, the government can also decrease the rate of unhealthy food by increasing the tax from items that have unhealthy ingredients. This can be seen in “sugar tax” or “salt tax” which pushes companies to try to make their products healthier.
In conclusion, unhealthy diet are largely caused by busy lifestyles and the food industry’s influence but action can be taken to reduce negative eating habits and encourage healthier eating.
