In many Urban societies grandchildren rarely spend time with their grandparents. In this essay will discuss about the consequences that the grandparents and children have encountered.
There are numerous factors like busy lifestyle, geographical distance, small family unit, socioeconomic status and different interests that has kept the children away from their grandparents. Due to these reasons children do not get the opportunity to form a strong relationship with their grandmother and grandfather.
In addition, as the age progresses people tend to like being around children, as this gives them a sense of happiness. Now when this does not happen they end up feeling lonely and depressed. For example, In Canada , most of the population in the country is of senior citizens. Due to lack of contact with their family around 60% of the older people are in depression.
Furthermore, inter-generational relationship is important for the young people as it helps in cultural development. Children tend to learn from the elderly people this gets hampered when they do not have contact to their own grandparents. For instance, a survey was conducted on a group of young children, there was two groups one was taught the culture by the teachers whereas the other half were taught by the grandparents. The survey showed that students who learned from their grandparents understood and remembered their culture well compared to the ones who were taught separately.
In Conclusion, it is necessary for children to spend more time with their grandparents to mould themselves to become a better version of themselves.
