Celebrity status hinges onto the attention they receive; without limelight, they cease to be a celebrity. This authority to reward someone the celebrity has become a poison for people, such that they have started to believe they own the person, having right to be privy about both their professional and personal lives. I believe this is not ethical and media has no right to profiteer over the personal lives of celebrities.
With the rise of journalism and media in the 1900’s, along came the celebrity status, awarded to the few people well-known by the masses. Reasons behind the fame that set them apart from people are on the spectrum but have one thing in common, they all didn’t choose fame, they got fame because of their profession, their thoughts and their qualities. But these days, both people and the media believe a celebrity owes us and we have all the rights to know about the intricacies of their personal life, the gossips and the drama. Which is completely wrong and unethical, as before being a celebrity they are a human and they have every right to keep their personal lives private.
Secondly, other then commitments made to appear in public for monetary compensation, I believe the media profiteering from the publicization of a celebrity’s personal life is unfair and unjust to the point, the person in focus can even sue them as that can become a possible case of stalking or maybe depending the contents of the publication a case of defamation. This snooping of paparazzi’s make celebrities feel unsafe and is also a matter of concern for them, which can cause serious repercussions.
In conclusion, I will say that I believe just for monetary benefit interrupting any person’s personal life, be it a normal person or a celebrity, is unethical and unjust in respect to the fundamental rights of every human.
