Governments are taking some measures to cut off density of … in urban areas. Several of them set new taxes related to overcrowd in active hours. Despite having some positive sides, in my opinion it is an absurd method and have detrimental impact on overall mood of citizens.
Firstly this measure will probably be advantageous, as the money raised from taxes will create a ground to improve the infrastructure of cities, for example by paving bicycle lanes. Considering the experience of countries, such as Netherlands and Switzerland, it will also has its impact in leveraging a density of traffic. Moreover, taking into account the efforts of governments to decrease level of harmful gases released by cars, fewer level of congestion will be beneficial for saving the environment.
On the other hand it has mainly negative affects, violating several human rights, such as the right for gathering and the right for moving in the place. Considering that individuals of different age groups have to head for schools, universities, work and other places, it is quite challenging to implement this measure for a long-term period. Also it is obvious that cars, and public transport like buses are popular among citizens. For example, as recent studies in the United Kingdom shows, the number of children using cars to reach the school is increasing each year. Therefore, governments should look for the methods other than this one, as without any doubts, citizens will resist to this measures by picketing or in even radical ways.
In summary, despite having some advantages, I think that it is not the best way to reduce a traffic rate and is negative overall.
