Band 5+: In some countries, the number of police officers in active service is decreasing. What do you think may be the reasons for this? What effects might this have on society?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In numerous nations, the deputies on call are dropping. This essay discusses one of many reasons why this could be the case. Certainly, because youngsters nowadays are more inclined towards pursuing a career in a field wherein, they would end up with a high salary job. This, however, has a terrible impact on society, as less the number of Saviors more the number of criminals.

In recent times, graduates are not looking towards making a career in civil services as they have seen the recent changes in the job market looking at the competitive market, one thinks that if they have a master’s degree or a required certification in a certain field they might end up with a six-figure wage. Police officers are not compensated enough as per their work profile which leads to a lot of potential candidates applying for other services. For example, their work includes handling a lots of stress, conflicting situations, being out on the field the entire day, and physical and mental hardships they face, in contrast to this they are not incentivized enough, and adding to this they do not a have a work-life balance they have to be present on the station 24 by 7 or in times of emergency.

There are various negative aspects of this, one being the crime rates will increase and the trust of people in public law enforcement might reduce. Since there will be limited people working actively, if a criminal incident occurs and the police might not be able to get there on time or save public from the danger or in certain cases it has been evidenced that after the criminals have fled from the place the protectors then arrive and handle the situation which would be of no use because the loss had incurred and it cannot be reversed. For example, if somebody stabs a person on the road with a knife in broad daylight and since there are no on-duty officers in the nearby stations, the murderers escape from there without being caught and no action being taken against them. Countering situations like this people would start feeling a sense of danger even in their own homes or cities and the culprits would live freely and enjoy doing more such activities.

It is concerning that there are very few cops contributing to public services in a few nations this is because they are not fairly compensated. This will not only promote more activities like burglary, robbery, murder, and kidnapping but also the trust that the people of the nation have in the

lawmakers shall tremble.
