Currently, the developments in technology and air travel have enabled countries to keep in touch with other ones from different corners of the world. There are both advantages of this as well as disadvantages, such as international conflicts and loss of global diversity.
The main advantage of contact between countries is knowledge exchange. People, sharing their knowledge with their counterparts from other parts of the world, can contribute much to the field of science. Communication, of scientists in particular, whether it is in a traditional or online form leads to the improvement of that field within a limited amount of time. The field of medicine, for example, improved a lot because of international campaigns organized all over the world, ensuring people’s health due to cooperative efforts of qualified doctors from different parts of the world in the form of charity. Also, maintaining good relationships on a global scale between countries leads to fostering empathy in the world. Having been informed about some bad news in another part of the world through mass media, countries may offer immediate humanitarian help to a suffering country which brings individuals in a global village together.
The first disadvantage is the possibility of misunderstandings among countries because of regular contacts in diverse spheres. Conflicts among state authorities in international meetings, may become the ones connected with military actions that can make people worried not only in these countries, but also their neighbor countries. This, in turn, affects the general well-being of citizens. Another downside is the loss of international diversity. If countries begin to adopt similar concepts of development by seeing other countries and learning about their model of actions, difference among countries may be lost. Tourism industry will mostly suffer from this as visits to other countries will lose popularity.
In conclusion, despite some merits namely exchange of knowledge and understanding among people, there are some demerits too.
