Positive And Negative

Band 9: In the past, people lived in one place for a long time, but now they can live in many different places. What are the reasons? Is this a positive or negative development?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Several decades ago, people typically spent their entire lives in one place. However, nowadays, they frequently relocate to new cities and countries. Not only do they travel more often, but they also engage in international marriages and emigrate in search of better opportunities. From my perspective, this shift is a positive development, and this essay will discuss the reasons behind this trend.

Firstly, the rapid development of social media and digital platforms has made it significantly easier to access comprehensive information about different countries and government systems. As a result, people’s fear of the unknown has diminished, encouraging them to explore new places. Should individuals lack knowledge about a particular country, they can simply search online and quickly fill these gaps. Additionally, easier access to information is not the only factor driving this trend; the rise of low-cost airlines has also played a crucial role. Budget airlines such as Ryanair and Wizz Air, for instance, provide affordable flights, allowing even those with limited financial resources to travel more frequently. Another key reason why people relocate is involuntary migration due to war or other circumstances beyond their control. For example, until 2015, Ukrainian citizens needed to apply for a visa to visit many destinations. However, with the introduction of a visa-free regime allowing stays of up to 90 days, it has become far easier to arrange travel documents and plan both short- and long-term trips. Consequently, individuals facing political instability or economic difficulties can now seek better living conditions abroad.

Taking these factors into account, I firmly believe that this trend is a positive development, as it offers numerous advantages. When individuals experience hardships in their home country, moving abroad provides an opportunity to change their environment and reduce mental stress. Moreover, living in diverse cities or even different countries enables people to broaden their horizons and discover where they truly belong. Young people, in particular, often feel trapped in their hometowns, and having the opportunity to explore the world fosters independence and adaptability. Unlike in the past, moving abroad no longer requires meticulous planning, as it is now primarily a matter of financial resources and personal choice.

In conclusion, the increasing trend of migration is driven by greater access to information, affordable travel options, and, in some cases, unavoidable circumstances such as war. While some external factors forcing relocation may be negative, the overall impact is highly beneficial, as it allows people to change their surroundings, reduce stress, and gain valuable life experiences.
