Students are now accepting more and more opportunities for their futures, such as studying abroad. They also tend to study abroad rather than in their own country. They can find and research opportunities more easily than in the past. However, there are disadvantages besides the advantages.
Students who want to study abroad are pursuing higher education than that offered in their own countries. First of all, after achieving higher education, they will have experience and knowledge of work opportunities for their future careers. Secondly, by studying abroad, students have to live in a different environment, such as one with a different language and culture; that is why they will gain the ability to adapt to new environments. And then, they will become more independent by living on their own. Additionally, they can become proficient in a foreign language because they have to communicate and learn using a foreign language. Furthermore, even if they return to their home country after their studies, they can have an advantage over local job candidates.
Despite the advantages, there are still disadvantages. Students have to spend a lot of money to study if they do not have funds such as scholarships. Living away from their families can cause emotional stress. Most students have part-time jobs apart from their studies; that is why they may become very tired and depressed at some times. They may have a difficult time coping with illness because they are not in their home country and it is not easy to show symptoms. If a student has to stay in bed with an illness, he or she does not have a friend or relative to take care of him or her. If they are foreigners in a foreign country, they may be looked down upon by the citizens of that country.
In conclusion, studying abroad offers more advantages than disadvantages. To obtain the advantages, students have to overcome the difficulties.
