International travelling benefits both the country and it’s tourists. This essay will elaborate on the advantages and the disadvantages of tourism and will determine if the benefits outweigh the drawbacks.
The advantages of tourism are economic development and cultural appreciation. Firstly, foreigners travelling to different nations boosts it’s economy. These travellers require facilities like housing, food, medication and recreation, and hence, the promote businesses of hotels, restraunts, hospitals and other recreational places. Dubai, for instance, makes much of it’s revenue from tourism. Secondly, it also encourages understanding of culture and traditions. It not only allows people to be more tolerant to each other believes and race , but it also allows them to respect one another. The diversity of races in America, is the epitome of understanding and appreciation of people of different heritage.
In contrast, there are also many disadvantages, two of which are; pollution and increase in criminal activity. It has been noticed, that popular tourist destinations often suffer from different types of pollution such as air pollution due to traffic, noise pollution because of crowding of individuals and water pollution because of littering in water bodies. This greatly impacts the environment and affects the biodiversity of that region. Marree, a famous vacation destination in Pakistan, suffers greatly due to the hazards caused by the tourists visiting there. It has also been documented that the crime rate in such places also rise due to inflation of foreigners. There are many pickpockets, thieves and scammers that loot and scam these individuals and cause the crime rate to escalate in these regions. Paris, for example, is notorious for pickpockets. However, these drawbacks can be combatted by maintaining a strict control and stationing of officers and guards, who will need to preserve decorum of the area.
Although, pollution and crime rate in these recreational areas are concerning, but these issues can easily be solved by a strict check and balance by the government. In addition, tourism also helps in the progress of the nation, along with development of understanding and empathy for people of different casts and creeds. In conclusion, advantages of active tourism outweighs the disadvantages.
