It is true that economic development plays an important role in reducing poverty in a nation. Therefore, some people argue that economic growth is necessary for the betterment of life, while opponents believe that it should be stopped, as it has negative impacts on the environment.
To commence with, it is irrefutable that economic development provides better employment opportunities for people, because it leads to new projects, industries, and infrastructure, which require more employees, workers, and laborers to complete their targeted projects within a specific time frame. As a result of this, people will earn high salaries and achieve financial stability in their lives, which will be helpful in improving the living standards of individuals. For instance, the previous generations were mostly engaged in agriculture and farming-related works due to the lack of industries, and their living standards were below the poverty line, but now the circumstances have changed with new manufacturing industries.
On the flip side, some sections of society assert that environmental protection is a main concern in today’s world. That is why it should be the main concern of the government, as economic growth will lead to new industries, waste, and more transportation, which might lead to pollution and severe harm to the environment. Moreover, it might also have negative impacts on people’s health, and people will suffer from asthma, lung cancer, and kidney failure due to air pollution and contamination of natural resources.
To recapitulate, it cannot be denied that economic growth is mandatory to compete in a fast-paced world, but I believe that the government should also consider specific projects and new developments that will lead to negative consequences for the environment
