Some people argue that the government should prevent illness by spending money on encouraging a lifestyle good for health, instead of on medical care of those who are already ill. In my opinion, I completely agree with this point of view for several reasons.
Investing public funding to avoid being ill is advantageous because it improves people’s health by increasing the ability to resist some serious diseases. For example, a balanced diet can provide our bodies with nutrients, which boost the immune system’s strength and give us strong resistance to viruses and bacteria. As a result, people’s life expectancy will increase, which means that they can contribute more to the country’s development, both economy and society. Therefore, it brings sustainable benefits for the public.
Moreover, treatments can have some drawbacks. Firstly, the cost is much more expensive, which is not suitable with the poor and people in need. That leads to a part of the population not having access to the medical treatments, and widens the gap between the rich and the poor. Secondly, the use of drugs to cure a disease for a long time can have a negative impact on people’s health. Our bodies depend gradually on medicine, which has side effects. For instance, when antibiotics are abused, it will no longer be effective in improving our health conditions. It can be seen that treatments do not have long-lasting effects.
In conclusion, I totally agree that it is necessary for authorities to put more money into avoiding diseases by enhancing the quality of healthy lives than treatments to cure a person of illness.
