It was predicted that in the 21st century, thanks to technological advancements, people are able to relish more leisure time. From my perspective, this forecast has partly become reality.
It is undeniable that people these days spend less time on mundane tasks due to the development of inventions such as electronic devices, intelligence and so on. Instead of spending time on writing letters and travelling to the official post, all it takes now is an electronic gadget with the Internet to communicate with long-distance friends. Moreover, several individuals now use Artificial Intelligence tools like ChatGPT or Gemini to assist them in their professional lives. They may utilize the technological assistant to help them organize their work files or prompt the emails which means they can focus on their primary assignments and reduce worktime.
However, it has to be acknowledged that technological advancements also have its trade-offs. A prime example for this justification is remote working. Besides working in the offices, many people continue to work at home with their laptops and virtual files, additionally, online meetings are also popularized thanks to the development of apps like Zoom, Google Meeting and Skype. Furthermore, multiple employers utilize the technology advances to assign more jobs to their employees since it is extremely feasible to contact each other by Gmail and other connecting platforms. Despite being at home, several individuals have to work overtime to keep up with their excessive workloads.
In conclusion, while I agree that the improvements of technology aim to assist people and increase their free time, I believe that it mostly depends on how each individual utilizes the development.
