Many countries are now facing an aging population, which led to shortage workfoce in certain sectors. Some people suggest that governments should encourage immigration to address this issue, while others argue that focusing on increasing the birth rate and extending the retirement age would be a better solution. This essay will discuss both approaches before giving my opinion.
On the one hand, people believe if government encourage immigration, it can address the workforce shortage. Immigrants are often willing to find a job and government can use that opportunity to gain extra workforce. Immigrant can also offers a lot of advantages, such as new skills, which can help for innovation boost and economic growth. For countries, that has a huge number of population, this is might be the most effective way.
On the other hand, people keep arguing to increase the birth rate and extending the retirement age would be the solution for this. Increasing birth rate and extanding the age of retirement might be the solution for countries that has minor population in it. Furthermore, this approaches can ensure the workforce in the future, so they wouldn’t need any foreigners or immigrants workforce. However, extending the age of retirement means elders have to work harder than usual and they might wont be able to do such job in such age.
In my opinion, using immigrant as a workforce is the best option. However, relying on it alone are not recommended. We must to make balance between them, by also increasing the birth rate, it’ll also a guarentee workforce supply for long term.
In conclusion, although immigration can provide a lot of workforce and new opportunitites for economic growth, increasing birth rate and extanding age of retirement also offers a long term benefits. Therefore, government should combine both of the solution wisely, so they could address this challenges.
