One of the most noticeable trends nowadays is that violent films and computer games should be banned because they may encourage aggression. However, some individuals consider that it is harmless and simply helps citizens relax, which I partly agree with. This essay will discuss both views of the impact of cruel films and video games, which has become increasingly relevant.
The first point to consider is that vicious media can have a positive effect on emotions because they allow residents to release stress in a safe environment. Since numerous individuals experience pressure from school or work, they often use entertainment to relax. For example, citizens may feel calmer after playing video games because they can temporarily forget about their daily problems. However, some individuals may express their anger online, which can lead to cyberbullying. Nevertheless, such behaviour is relatively uncommon and can be prevented through effective moderation.
In addition, the public consider violent media beneficial because it provides excitement and enjoyment. As action-packed films and games are engaging, they help humans spend their spare time in an enjoyable way. For instance, millions enjoy action films and video games because they find them entertaining rather than harmful. Although, constant exposure to such content may desensitise individuals, most citizens can clearly distinguish fiction from reality, so violent media is unlikely to affect real-life behaviour.
On the other hand, violent entertainment can be harmful for teenagers because they are more impressionable. Since adolescents are still developing their personalities, they may imitate aggressive behaviour that they observe in films or games. For example, repeated exposure to cruel content may make teenagers less sensitive to aggression.
Considering both sides of the debate, although violent films and computer games can provide emotional relief and enjoyable entertainment, they may also have a negative influence on teenagers because they are more impressionable. Therefore, I believe that such media should not be banned, provided that appropriate age restrictions are strictly enforced.
