Band 7+: Many people like to eat unhealthy food even though they know it's bad for them. *Why and What are the most effective ways to improve people's eating habits?*

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In comparison to days of yore, it is beyond a shadow of a doubt that a significant number of individuals today prefer to consume foods that are detrimental to their health. The primary reason for this is that unhealthy food not only tastes more appealing but is also significantly cheaper. This essay will examine the underlying causes of this trend and evaluate whether it is detrimental to both individuals and society as a whole.

There are several factors contributing to this dilemma, which will be discussed in this article. To begin with, unhealthy foods are often more appealing and cheaper than healthier options, primarily due to the use of chemicals, oils, and salt in processed foods. These additives enhance flavour, stimulate taste buds, and create cravings, leading to overconsumption. Healthier foods, on the other hand, are typically more expensive and beyond the financial reach of many. As a result, people often choose cheaper, unhealthy options despite knowing their harmful effects. For instance, in the United States, fast food like hamburgers and pizzas can cost as little as two dollars, while fresh fruits often exceed five dollars.

From my perspective for improving, this issue could be addressed by reducing the cost of healthy foods and launching awareness campaigns about unhealthy diets. If nutritious food were made more affordable, it would become accessible to more people, allowing healthier choices to be made without financial constraints. Awareness campaigns highlighting the risks of processed foods could be implemented so that the public is better educated about long-term health impacts. As a result, a decline in junk food consumption could be achieved, as seen in Singapore, where similar initiatives have led to positive dietary changes.

In conclusion, I firmly believe that the widespread preference for unhealthy foods, despite their well-known negative impact on health, is primarily driven by their superior taste and lower cost. However, these issues can be addressed by reducing the price of healthier food options and increasing public awareness of the dangers of unhealthy eating.
