Band 8+: Many people like to eat unhealthy food even though they know it's bad for them. *Why and What are the most effective ways to improve people's eating habits?*

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Consuming unhealthy products is popularly preferred by multiple individuals, although they are conscious of their detrimental effects. This trend is attributed to some factors associated with their taste and promotion. Personally, there are some viable approaches to address the problem.

One of the major reasons why several people relish eating unhealthy food is mainly rooted in its taste. In detail, fast food and sugary desserts contain a high amount of synthetic sugar and excessive fats, which serve as instant energy supplies. Thus, they trigger customers’ mental pleasure and stimulate their appetite. Moreover, another reason is its convenience. The majority of fast food chains frequently prepare food available, always ready for consumption, regardless of time, so no preparation time is required, which becomes an ideal solution for busy workers. Finally, widespread advertising is a great contributor to the trend. Food companies have a variety of strategies to appeal to more customers. This is exemplified by the case where food posters are strategically designed with larger food size, compared to the reality, and highlighted colors, or the companies endorse well-known celebrities to promote their commodities to fans. The sophisticated marketing plans facilitate their appeal and reputation, encouraging unhealthy options.

To promote healthier eating habits, governments play an integral role in supporting inhabitants to shape a healthy preference. To begin with, schools and municipal governments could launch nutrition educational programs to educate people to go on balanced diets and to identify potential risks of chronic diseases such as obesity and heart disease. The initiative aids in raising awareness about the long-term health consequences of unhealthy eating and supports healthier alternatives. Moreover, healthy products are often much more expensive than fast food and other unhealthy counterparts. Therefore, authorities can implement policies to cut down on the costs of healthy food, making it more affordable and widely available. For example, subsidies on fruits and vegetables or taxes on sugary beverages and junk food can make nutritious options more appealing.

In conclusion, the roots of unhealthy eating preferences are encouraged by its taste, convenience, and the impact of advertising. From my perspective, targeted efforts such as educational programs and policy changes encourage healthier eating habits and improve overall health.
