There is a growing trend where many students do not have ability to concentrate for long periods at university. While this can be largely attributed to focus disruption, I believe that the problem can be effectively addressed through phone-free study environment.
One compelling reason why student does not deep focus on own education can be short-form contents. With screen addiction offers continuous stimulation and most students reward dopamine by social media or non-academic activities. The implications are not confined to fragmented learning but also extend to poor attention span, ultimately changing automatic habit. This is exemplified by many streamers who play games immoderately this cause to lack of concentration while learning a new language or preparing to take exams. Therefore, constant digital distraction can be a root cause why many students complaint depression and tiredness of the brain.
To combat this issue effectively, it is imperative for undergraduate to take a decisive action by making structured study routine and restricting habitual phone checking. When students do not check their notifications first thing in the morning, their brain adapts new behavior, thereby developing their memory. A perfect case in point would be professional history teachers who learn by heart each factor of the historical events due to structured study routine. In this regard, implementing such structured approaches will successfully tackle the root cause of lack of concentration.
In conclusion, digital technology is the primary reason why students attention span decreased over time. However, restricting smartphone in university area can successfully resolve this issue.
