Due to rapid technological progress, today children spend their spare time differently, using different gadgets and staying online. From my point of view, the drawbacks are more significant than the benefits.
On the one hand, the way children spend their free time in the modern world has certain advantages. While using the Internet, children can meet new people and make friends from all across the globe, which gives them an opportunity to learn about different cultures and makes them more open-minded. At the same time, children can gain knowledge about many topics and explore different activities, while playing computer games and watching online.
On the other hand, there are considerable disadvantages to technologies changing the way children rest in the modern world. First of all, constantly watching videos on a screen significantly worsens eyesight and, therefore, many children have to wear glasses or even undergo eye surgery in order to be able to see clearly. The changed way children spend their free time not only badly affects their eyesight, but it also decreases their attention span. Furthermore, it becomes harder for children to focus on one thing, making it difficult for them to study and communicate. Finally, with technological development, children engage in less and less face-to-face interactions, which affects their ability to socialize and live in society.
In conclusion, the way children spend their leisure greatly differs from the past because of innovative technologies. While this has a number of benefits, I believe that the disadvantages are crucial and outweigh the advantages.
