Band 8+: Nowadays, eating habits of people around the world are changing, causing them many health problems including obesity. Why do you tend to eat so badly? What can be done to improve their eating habits?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In many parts of the world, unhealthy eating habits of people have become increasingly common, contributing to the rising rates of obesity and various chronic diseases. This tendency is driven by many social and economical reasons. In my opinion, the best way of promoting healthy eating would definitely be comprehensive education and public awareness campaigns.

Many people adopt unhealthy diets due to the widespread availability of fast food and highly processed products. These are often inexpensive, convenient and heavily advertised, making them particularly attractive to individuals with limited time for cooking nutritious meals. Moreover, people often lack proper understanding of nutrition and unaware of the possible consequences of excessive sugar, salt and fat consumption. As a result, they tend to make unhealthy food choices.

Another significant factor is the modern lifestyle. Majority of people now have hectic schedules and demanding jobs. This leaves them no other choice but relying on takeaway meals and packaged foods. In addition, individuals are likely to choose food that is high in calories but low in nutritional value as a result of emotional stress. Since junk food provides them with instant satisfaction people keep making the same wrong decisions knowing that they are risking their overall well-being.

To address this issue effectively, governments and health organizations should provide proper nutritional education by offering healthy eating lessons in schools and organizing nationwide awareness campaigns. If people are taught about the significance of their eating habits, they grow up making more informed and sensible dietary choices and continue it throughout their whole lives. Furthermore, clear packaging and informing people about the nutritional content of the product can also play a vital role in warning people about their diet.

In conclusion, although taxing high sugary drinks and banning junk food advertisements can be useful in promoting a healthier lifestyle, I believe educating people has more lasting impact as it empowers people to make healthy decisions voluntarily rather than through an external factor.
