Band 5+: Nowadays, in many families both parents need to have jobs. What are some of the problems associated with both parents working, and what are some of the possible solutions?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In the modern world, working parents are increasingly common to balance financial stability.

However, it may cause some issues in their personal lives and probably affect their children’s mental health directly. Although parents can manage to strike a balance between their family life and professional career by prioritizing goals and planning duties.

One of the most problematic sides of working parents is prolonged absent from home and leaving children alone. This may cause children to feel lonely and suffer from lack of sympathy which is the most significant reason for depression in youth. Additionally, working long hours can negatively impact parents’ emotional relationships. While men and women spend most of their time outside, they cannot find enough opportunity to communicate and enjoy their company and it may cause sharp increase in divorce statistics in long term. For example, in Iran reports are indicated that one out of two marriages will end due to lack of sympathy in couples.

In contrast, to minimize the negative effects of prolonged working, couples could prioritize the goals and build a strong plan that includes every aspect of life to hold a balance between working aims, social personality and personal responsibility. Moreover, trying to maintain connection through calls, text messages or any other communication tools can continuously remind couples that hectic schedule or physical distance is not an obstacle in their emotional relationship. For instance, short pause in working time or lunch break are appropriate opportunities to make a connection with partner.

In conclusion, children’s depression and negative impacts on emotional relationships are the major problems for working parents that might seem no room for escape. But, creating a well- structured plan and shared responsibilities can minimize the issues and provide better family environment.
