Most health-related research projects are sponsored by private firms in modern era. In my opinion, this sponsorship should be replaced by governments because they have the power and available finances which is needed to provide better healthcare treatment. On the other hand, private companies are only interested in getting more revenues and which can harm the quality of human lives.
To begin with, governments always focuses on public welfare and they can take initiative to provide financial assistance to research projects involving medical care as they have complete accountability when it comes to invest money in research. Citizens often pay tax on goods and services, so this money which is in the form of tax can be used by authority to enhance equipments of hospitals. For instance, central authority of new delhi receives 19% of revenues from income tax every year.
In contrast, private companies are money-minded people. Furthermore, they tend to invest in research projects which can provide them profit. In addition, when the funding comes from the same organization, the results could also be biased to ensure there is a favourable outcome to the funding institution. For example, companies that produce medicine are legally obliged to go through rigorous trials, which may take several years to complete. As investors invest large sums of money, it is impractical for them to wait for long tenture to attain expected result. Hence this increases the likelihood that the quality of the research will be compromised to achieve quicker results.
To conclude, I believe that government is undoubtedly more responsible and they have enough funds which can be used to invest in hospitals and also improve human lives whereas private companies and individuals are people who are not people-oriented and instead they are money-oriented who only want to get more profit from the research projects.
