It is apparently true that the majority of information and data is accessible through the internet. However, in the past, individuals could only hve one option using books and printed sources. I firmly believe that we gain more benefits rather than drawbacks.
On the one hand, there are some negative points to be mentioned that may critisize this development, one of which is the reliability and the origin of data shared on the internet, as individuals are free to spread information out without any authority or reliable certification to confirm, providing a considerable risk of misunderstanding among the users online. A case in point is the social media channels that put some pieces of medical advice forward on their own, whereas printed data must always, especially in the past, be analyzed by responsible organizations to be published. From a healthy perspective, as individuals now must use digital screens of smartphones or computers to access the knowledge online, it might become harmful to the vision in the long-term, bringing out consequences due to excesive use of these devices, especially those who really need the information.
On the other hand, I truly contend that this development would benefit people more in terms of convenience and environment. Firstly, as not all people have equal access to printed data around the globe or their library may not include the required sources, using the internet to satisfy the need for knowledge can be easily done, regardless of the location or time, making this option highly convenient. The Google Scholar is one of the main examples of websites that have converted printed versions of books into digital ones and provided for free. As the environmental policies are issued, the more people tolerate finding data online, the less number of trees will be cut down in order to provide paper for printed, which means that the environment can become much safer than ever before.
All in all, much as online data might be disadvantageous in terms of reliablity and health of the eyes, merits such as conveniece in access or efficiency can outweight the drawbacks with ease.
