Since the past, people tend to pay attention to science more than any other fields. Despite its importance, minority of university students showing an interest towards these subjects in many countries because of the challenges they might face in this field. This attitude, however, results in negative effects on development of a country.
Two main reasons can be considered for the lack of interest in these subjects among youngsters. First of all, the difficulties that students might encounter during the process of learning can prevent them from going for further knowledge in this field. Mathematics, for example, is one of the complicated subject as it includes a lot of numbers and figures, and a person, learning this should memorize most of them in order to apply them to the projects. Given that this process can take plenty of time, students try to avoid and choose the easier subjects to cope with. Another reason is that the mundane teaching methods used at universities. What I mean by this is that only learning by theory-based lectures may cause loss of enthusiasm among students towards the subjects they are studying.
Considering aforementioned concerns, reduction in learning science may have detrimental impact on society since many innovations and discoveries’ foundation was science. Take geography as an example, had it not been for this subject, it would have been impossible for human beings to discover new lands and various populations across the continents. Nowadays, because of its discoveries, we are able to expand our knowledge more about other countries. Besides that not only is science the main source of country’s income, but it is also a bridge between people that connects intelligent minds. If the number of such subject specialists declines, the development in many countries can fall, resulting in poor living conditions and isolated populations.
In conclusion, although there are considerable reasons for lower interest in science, both students and government should take the significance of this field into consideration to avoid future setbacks.
