In contemporary society, young people are often influenced in their behaviors and situations by others of the same age. This is known as “peer pressure”. In my opinion, the advantages of peer influence at school outweigh the disadvantages.
From one angle, peer pressure has positive effects. Initially, it encourages a positive behavior. This is because, youth naturally would like to be fit and accepted by their peers. For instance, if friends study hard or exercise regularly, others are likely to adopt similar habits. Consequently, it improves academic performance, better health, and self- discipline. Furthermore, it motivates self-improvement. This is why, adolescents may attempt to match their friend’s achievements and abilities. As an example, learning new skills like playing an instrument, coding, or public speaking. Therefore, peer pressure plays a key role in teenager’s life.
On the other hand, it encourages risky, undesirable and harmful behavior. Due to the fact that adolescents often want to avoid being neglected or mocked by souls, so that they imitate to their friends. For example, smoking, alcohol consumption, skipping school, or engaging in online dares. As a result, short-term pleasure can lead to health issues, addiction, or poor academic performance.
To sum up, imitating friends or so-called “peer pressure” provides both advantages and disadvantages. I personally believe that advantages are outweigh drawbacks, as it often helps to stay fit.
