Nowadays, the use of plastic has become increasingly common, and many food and beverage companies rely on it for packaging their products. Although plastic products have beneficial sides in some ways, I believe that it is more likely to detrimental overall.
Indeed, using plastic containers has clear advantages. One major benefit is that the producing plastic requires less energy compared to other materials. As a result, it can help reduce manufacturing costs and energy consumption. Another benefit is its durability. Plastic packaging is lightweight and strong and this sides make it ideal for protecting food and drinks during transportation and storage. This durability also helps reduce food waste.
However, despite these upsides, the downsides of plastic are far more serious. The most significant issue is land pollution. Plastic does not decompose easily and can remain in the environment for hundreds of years.Large amount of plastic end up in landfills, causing long-term damage to soil quality. Furthermore, plastic is extremely harmful to animals. Many animals mistake plastic waste for food, which can lead to injury or death. This problem is particularly severe for wildlife, as plastic pollution disrupts natural ecosystems.
In conclusion, although plastic packaging consumes less energy and is highly durable, but it pales in comparison to the major downsides discussed above.
