According to recent data, most business meetings and training sessions are now being held online rather than through traditional face-to-face methods. While this development saves both time and money, it also has negative effects on social bonds and may cause distractions during the events.
The most obvious advantage of this trend is the reduction in time and expenditure. Employees do not need to spend money on public transportation or fuel for their private vehicles. Furthermore, they can save a considerable amount of time by avoiding traffic jams and long commutes. For example, on average, people in Uzbekistan waste around an hour in traffic during rush hours. Another major benefit is that online meetings and training allow employees to stay with their families while working. As a result, parents do not need to hire a caretaker for their children.
However, there are also some drawbacks that cannot be ignored. If meetings and training sessions take place online, employees may gradually lose strong social bonds with their colleagues. In other words, the lack of face-to-face interaction may negatively affect teamwork and future cooperation. Another important issue is distraction. While people are participating in online meetings or training sessions, children or other family members may interrupt them by making noise. Consequently, employees may feel uncomfortable and find it difficult to concentrate on the subject. For instance, when my mother attends online training sessions, she often asks us to remain quiet so that she can focus fully on the information being presented.
In conclusion, although online meetings and training sessions provide several benefits for both employers and employees, they also create certain disadvantages related to communication and concentration.
