There is an ongoing debate about living in big cities of more than 20 million residents. While I agree that it can have certain benefits for life, I would argue that its negative effects are more significant for society.
On the one hand, more and more people shifting to live in mega-cities can have some benefits. The first one is prospects in working. This means that in many urban areas, there is a wide range of work for each person. Therefore, many workers shift from villages to spacious cities in search of job opportunities., which can help individuals have a stable income source. Furthermore, living in mega-cities is more convenient, such as in healthcare and education. For instance, students living in urban areas can easily access advanced English courses without studying online, which can sometimes cause distraction for them . This can also help reduce long daily commutes when going to class.
However, I believe that there are great drawbacks of this trend. First, when a large number of citizens live in mega-cities, it can negatively affect the infrastructure, such as road damage when various transportation drive. This can cause inconvenience in daily life for individuals. As a result, the government has to allocate more budget to improve these infrastructure, placing a burden on the national economy. Instead, that money should be invested in many urgent matters, such as pollution. Another serious consequence is housing shortages. This is because numerous people migrating to urban areas can cause high population density, which makes seeking houses to live becoming harder than ever. That’s the reason why mega-cities have various slums, where homeless people live. This affects not only living conditions of citizens, but also public health.
In conclusion, while an increasing number of people living in mega-cities can have distinct advantages, I believe that this trend represents a negative development.
