In today’s increasingly interconnected society, an increasing number of individuals are often opting for residing in mega-cities, commonly defined as urban areas with populations exceeding 20millions. While this trend can pose some environmental degradation and pressured daily services, I believe that the benefits it yields are outweighed by its negative implications in the long run.
On the one hand, living in mega-cities may provide residents with invaluable opportunities almost in their daily lives. The conveniences needed for human beings would be advantageous for everyone, ranging from diverse job positions and recreational facilities to educational institutions. This means that people living in such conditions may rarely encounter financial burden, potentially leading to improved quality of life. Furthermore, individuals particularly well-educated and ambitious young generations usually gravitate towards moving metropolitan areas. On the ground that they can pursue their academic and professional goals, both of which are fundamental aspects in order to obtain outstanding results in their career. However, this potential of benefits is uncertain and indirect, whereas environmental and health consequences can come at a cost.
One major concern is the environmental damage, which may affect detrimentally to overall well-being of local residents and inadequate services. The presence of numerous industries and factories plays an indispensable role in emitting harmful gases constantly. Therefore, inhabitants tend to breathe from that polluted air, perhaps leads to several serious diseases, such as asthma, allergies, and even premature death. Another issue worth mentioning is that rapidly growth of urban populations places a strain on city services. Take overcrowded public transport and severe traffic congestion as pertinent examples, that frequently impact negatively in daily routines. As a result, they may waste of considerable amount of time on long hours commuting due to traffic congestions.
In conclusion, although mega-cities with more than 20 million populations offer some merits to access wider advanced facilities, it is predominantly negative development. From a long-term perspective, not only these emerging factors may disturb them with unsatisfactory daily services, but also it can cause extremely serious disorders because of air pollution.
