Disciplining children takes many forms, and some prefer to engage in physical punishment. They insist that spanking would instill proper behavior in children. This essay will depict why the non-harmful means are far more effective than this well-known approach.
Some adults have always been fond of the more physical style, believing that children retain memories of engaging in misbehavior will inevitably result to punishment. As parents are also children of their own, they’ve taken the path which is known to them, resulting in harmful physical engagement. Lack of exposure to alternatives has also been an enormous contributing factor. Based on the latest research, the young demographic that were involved in such disciplinary precautions have turned out to be responsible human beings afterwards. Indeed, this option has shown results that favor the parent’s goals, but does it then signify to be the most-advantageous?
On the other hand, a number of families have opted for positive reinforcement as their tool to engrave discipline unto the youth. As much as fear and pain can establish proper ethics in a child, joy and satisfaction could do the same, if not better. Feelings of reward and accomplishment does not only insinuate discipline to the youth but could also result to an impenetrable relationship between parent and child, unlike the initial way. It is seen, through the internet, that adults who have been pampered accordingly in their early years turn out to be as reliable and well-mannered. As the world progresses so should our ways, including raising our own.
This essay depicted why abusive methods could give you promising results, but also sacrifice other important aspects. In my point of view, engaging in violence to instill discipline is completely repulsive and not to be recommended nor even considered.
