According to some, the best way to improve discipline among children is smacking. While acknowledging the benefits of strict punishment to achieve the best form of discipline, I partly disagree with this opinion, as there are certain factors that can significantly contribute to children’s self-discipline.
On the one hand, one of the primary benefits associated with smacking children has to do with their fear of punishment. Most importantly, when children receive smacking from their teachers at school, they are more likely to feel afraid of being smacked over time, which, in turn, leads them to put enough emphasis on their homework and school projects, thereby increasing their knowledge base more effectively. As a result, this can lead to better academic results, resulting in better focus on their studies and attention during school projects. This is particularly advantageous in a world where the younger generation has a lack of discipline and emphasis on their studies and homework.
However, in my view, there are certain factors that can improve discipline significantly among children, which should be taken into consideration. To illustrate, if children receive only punishment during their childhood period, they would develop a strong sense of aversion to study for a long time. In place of strict punishment to improve discipline, schools and parents can adapt a lot of awards for higher grades or attention, leading to better grades and self-passion to study in the long term. Consequently, this can result in positive effects not only for their academic performance but also for their behavior and interest in studying in the future, which can ultimately lead them to pursue a higher education in top universities all around the world.
In conclusion, although there are some benefits of smacking in children’s discipline, I strongly believe that in terms of better academic results and interest in studying, considering other factors would be more advantageous.
