It is scientifically proven that smoking is responsible for a variety of diseases such as lung cancer. There are various perspectives on the issue of whether cigarettes and other tobacco products should be prohibited. I am personally of the opinion that smoking tobacco-based products should not be banned and my reasons are as follows.
First of all, tobacco-based cigarettes can hardly be considered as drugs. There is no evidence that indicates smoking tobacco-based cigarettes can lead to hallucinating as lots of drugs do. On the contrary, there are a variety of evidences that showcase the impact of those products on alleviating anxiety. Undoubtedly, smoking can endanger our health and the health of our loved ones who live close to us. Therefore, this matter requires some strict laws and rigid supervision from the government so the damage would only affect those who smoke and not non-smokers.
Secondly, that industry is one of the most profitable industries worldwide, and the amount of money that this industry bring to each country is irreplaceable and cannot be overlooked. Let’s not forget that limiting people’s freedom is never the answer and can only lead to dissatisfaction of the citizens, and it can result in more serious challenges. I believe there are various solutions for diminishing the amount ofsmoking for the sake of society’s health. Making tobacco-based cigarettes more costly is an instance which is a policy that a majority of countries use.
By way of conclusion, I would like to restate that even though smoking can lead to some serious illnesses, it cannot be banned and the freedom of the citizens cannot be taken, but damages caused by cigarettes should be limited to those who consume those products, and that can be achieved by some strict rules and supervision from the government.
