Band 6+: Solving environmental problems should be the responsibility of international organization rather than each national government. Do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

It is undeniably true that the environment has become a global issue. Opinions differ on whether worldwide organizations are responsible for environmental challenges, or whether actions by each country can indeed foster sustainable change. In my perspective, while global institutions play a significant role in tackling the issues, I opine that the responsibility of every single country is pivotal in protecting the environment.

On the one hand, a multinational organization can have the ability and authority to solve global environmental issues in more than one country at a time. Take the North pole as an example. Recently, the rise in the number of glaciers melting has been recorded in several countries in the North pole, ranging from Canada to Iceland, leading to a situation where typhoons and storms happen more frequently. Therefore, with the collaboration and support from the world organization to launch massive campaigns, those nations who are suffering from those challenges will have the approaches for it. Another point to make is that the adverse impacts could spread outside the national borders. In other words, if the poor countries are facing disasters, such as earthquakes or tsunamis, the richer ones nearby could be affected. The implication of this is the repercussions on a majority of nations. However, international organizations can cooperate with wealthy countries to provide financial support or develop a forecasting disaster system in those countries living in poverty, which can somehow alleviate the mortality as well as financial burdens after every disaster.

On the other hand, I firmly hold the view that each nation should be responsible for their own environmental issues. The main rationale behind this is that the cause of environmental problems of each country is distinguished. For instance, one of the reasons for desertification in the USA is the over-exploitation of natural resources, while in China, this is largely due to rapid urbanization. This means each country should issue different approaches and strategies based on the national as well as governmental investment to tackle the problems. Moreover, the priority of distinct environmental issues will be differently decided by each country. By solving and focusing on the most crucial problems first, that country can predict the loss they might face and readily cover for it. All nations, as a result, can themselves solve their own environmental problems based on their necessities.

In conclusion, the responsibility of an international organization toward global environmental challenges is indisputable. However, I believe that environmental issues should also be undertaken by each nation, creating optimal solutions to foster a sustainable and greener future.
