Transportation infrastructure has always been a crucial aspect of modern life. Some individuals argue that authorities should invest more money in developing roads and highways, whereas others believe than the government should spend more money on advancement of public transportation. In this essay, we discuss both points of view and write in favor of latter.
On the one hand, those who advocate for allocating a large proportion of funds for enhancing road infrastructure point out that these networks play critical role in facilitating economic activity. High-quality roads are essential for the efficient movement of goods and services, which are vital for trade and industry sectors. Since most of the Since most factories and industrial areas are located in rural areas, by enhancing roads, the movement of trucks and lorries can be simplified significantly. For instances, in my country, Iran, the majority of factories (such as food production and pharmaceutical factories) are located in suburban areas, driving is the most practical and accessible mode of transporting goods. Therefore, maintaining and expanding the road network is seen as a significant matter.
On the other hand, proponents of public transportation argue that it offers more sustainable and economic benefits. Public transport systems, such as buses, trains, and subways, can transfer large numbers of commuters efficiently. They believe that if the government could improve the quality of these means of transportation facilities, it will reduce traffic and air pollution. As public transportation becomes more convenient and safer, more people will use them, and it will gradually reduce the number of private vehicles on the road, traffic congestion, and air pollution as well. For example, in developing cities like In Istanbul, there are various types of transportations, helping citizens travel within the city. As a result, public transportation systems are often viewed as the most efficient means of reducing both traffic and pollution in major cities.
In conclusion, while some people think investments in expanding roads and highways can facilitate transferring goods and enhance the economy, others who argue that spending money to develop public transportation in cities is more significant due to reducing of pollution and traffic jam and boosting the economies of urban areas. In my opinion, greater emphasis should be placed on public transport. Not only does it offer long-term environmental benefits, but it also provides affordable mobility solutions for the general public.
